What is “REI” (Fire resistance)?

“REI” abbreviation is commonly used to define the Class of Fire Resistance of a building component.
Definition of “Fire Resistance” :< attitude of a building or structural component to preserve, according to a specified time and thermic program, the stability "R", capacity "E", and thermic insulation "I" >. (def. dal D.M. 30/11/1983)

What does “REI” mean?

REI fire class resistance (subdivided in multiple 15 minutes levels, based on performance duration “R, RE, REI”) requires that standards shall be respected in terms of...

What is the “class of reaction to fire” of a given material?

The Class of Reaction to Fire identifies the attitude of a material to light up when trigged by a small flame and how the fire is going to spread in presence of a strong radiant heat.
Reaction to fire: < Contribution of a combustible material to a fire source affecting it. In relation to that, materials are assigned to classes 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 according to participation level in the combustion; class 0 means non-combustible >. (def. dal D.M. 26/6/1984)

Do “REI” materials exist?

There are no construction REI materials, but Class "0" or Class "1" fire-resistance materials instead. There are however different stratigraphy constituted in plaster slabs and and horizontal/vertical metallic frame that hold fire-resistance attributes (chalk walls with metallic warping).

Fire doors: how to inspect them?

Safety doors, those of fire and panic exit routes, must, not only, be mounted properly . As we can read in both fire and safety standards in the workplace, just like any safety tool, fire-doors must be maintained in good operative standards. To do this there is no need of great efforts: following few rules for their regular inspection is useful to verify that each door is in good working order and to maintain it operative, through repair, in case of serious anomalies...
